Chestnuts in the Cevennes
3 days / 3 nights

Since Middle Age, the chestnut tree is part of the daily life in Cevennes. When people started to cultivate it, it became rapidly the main resource in the area thanks to the wood and to the fruits. In order to facilitate the culture, men have modified the landscape by building terrace to plant this tree everywhere it was possible. The chestnut tree has become the symbol of the Cevennes region since it saved people during the period of starvation.
Nowadays, the chestnut tree is still important for the local economy, some people maintain the traditions by using the resources of this tree and its fruits. That's why we take you "on the tracks of the chestnut" to meet passionate persons. They will share their know-how and you will taste chestnut in the local gastronomy.
